Allison to Guest Star in ‘Patrick Melrose’

It was just announced that Allison will be a guest star in ‘Patrick Melrose’ alongside Benedict Cumberbatch. The show will air on Showtime next year.

Allison Williams has booked her first post-Girls TV gig.

The former star of the HBO comedy will guest star on Showtime’s upcoming miniseries, the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer Patrick Melrose. Williams is set to join the limited series for one episode as Marianne, an acquaintance that Patrick (Cumberbatch) encounters during his playboy years in New York, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Williams adds her name to an already impressive cast list, as Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hugo Weaving and Anna Madeley have all signed on for Patrick Melrose.

Based on the acclaimed series of semi-autobiographical novels written by Edward St. Aubyn, Patrick Melrose hilariously skewers the upper class as it tracks the title character’s harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery.

Each of the five episodes, co-produced by Sky Atlantic, is devoted to one of the five novels. The series will encompass the saga of Patrick’s life, from his horribly abusive youth at the hands of his father (Weaving) and the mother who tacitly condones the behavior (Leigh) to the outrageous playboy he becomes and the struggles he endures to defy the damage of his own past. The story will cover periods including the South of France in the 1960s, New York in the 1980s and Britain in the early 2000s.

David Nicholls (Far From the Madding CrowdOne Day) is writing all five episodes, which will be directed by Edward Berger (Deutchland 83Jack). Cumberbatch is an executive producer.

Williams, who starred in Jordan Peele’s breakout summer horror movie Get Out, recently wrapped her run as Marnie when Girls ended its run earlier this year.
